Vaping, touted as a “safe” alternative to smoking, has flooded the market in the past decade with kids in middle school adopting the habit. I mean there are bubblegum and candy flavors, so it has to be okay, right? WRONG! Recently, cases of severe lung illness and even death attributed to e-cigarettes are increasingly making national headlines. Some states have taken the initiative to ban e-cigarettes, and the POTUS is considering an emergency nation-wide ban. Are these extreme measures, or is our government warranted in their alarmest reaction? Listen in as we discuss what’s behind the flavored aerosol vapor that has swept our nation, all while drinking a lovely Pouilly Fume (and find out if it’s actually smoky or if that’s just the namesake).
If you are a parent, time spent with your kids is the most precious gift of all time. But, everyone needs a break including, and especially, moms! This episode, we interview Mo, the mother of an awesome little dude, to learn how her life changed once she became a mother – a topic we think many can relate to. We delve into the stress of being a parent, how to prevent “mommy burnout” and tips to keep your self-identity outside of mom or dad. We’re sipping “Mommy’s Time Out” which was the perfect escape. So grab your own glass, take a break from the kids, and listen!
Now it’s time for a recap of our time in Napa Valley. From tasting rooms to vineyards, we had a variety of experiences through a range of widely accessible wines to limited productions! As we recount the rest of our first DBP trip to the motherland, we share everything from the Summer Release Event at Round Pond to a one-on-one tasting at the world-class Joseph Phelps with a spectacular view of their vineyards. Nobody likes to fail, but the US may be dubbed as a failure of one of the biggest public health achievements in our history. How, you ask? Not even halfway through the year, this country is already seeing the greatest number of measles cases in over 25 years – with more than 700 confirmed cases across 22 states as of the date of recording! As anti-vaxxers become more prevalent, with pockets of non-immunized communities popping up around the country, our most vulnerable are at risk. Even a small dip in immunity of the nation’s population can make this very contagious disease a threat. A topic that demands attention, yours truly delve into the details behind the spread of this potentially fatal virus and talk about the propaganda put out there…it’s absolutely terrifying!! As we discuss the evolution of this potential epidemic, we thought what better to sip on than Evolution White Wine from Oregon…grab a glass and listen in!

If you thought the Swiss were only good at making cheese fondue, you may be sorely mistaken! This episode we explore the discreet wine-making region of Switzerland, where some of the steepest vineyards in the world are located! We got our hands on a bottle of Petite Arvine from the Valais Region of Switzerland- which is not easy to do since the Swiss drink nearly all the wine they make! But you don’t need a bottle of Swiss wine to listen and enjoy!
Time to wrap up 2018!! As we come to the end of this most amazing year – the inaugural DBP year – we take a pause to appreciate and reflect on the last 365 days. But also to say, “WTF 2018?!” From fake emergency missile threats to famous rappers in the White House, we recall the events of this year that literally made us stop in our tracks, with nothing but a blank stare, thinking WTF! And we close out the year with a wine from one of our favorite winemakers, with a label that accurately reflects how we feel in this episode: Orin Swift’s Blank Stare Sauvignon Blanc. You won’t want to miss this!
This week we feature another wine-making country that’s likely not on many people’s radars: the tiny country of Luxembourg! In this episode, your DBP hosts get a little more geeky about wine, as far as varietals, methods, etc. Largely influenced by its neighbors, France and Germany, Luxembourgian wines take on similar flavor profiles while offering something distinctive. Be prepared to hear us butcher a few foreign languages, grab a bottle of wine, and get ready to mentally transport yourself across the pond. Cheers, bitches!
In this episode, Orin Swift’s ‘Mannequin’ flows into our glasses and our discussion about a University of Texas program designed to change the definition of ‘masculinity.’ But how – and who! – exactly defines what masculinity is or isn’t? As you join us for this slightly controversial chat, fill up your glass and sip along!
“Make it a better place!” Organic. Natural. Sustainable. What does it all mean? Inspired by the 2016 Art of Earth Pinot Grigio, made with Italian organic grapes, we tackle the topic on what these “earthy” terms mean in the winemaking process and what we as buyers of wine should be aware of as wine becomes a global commodity. We also dive into the topic of organic food and day-to-day practices that can “make the world a better place” (to quote the infamous MJ). Be good to the environment, be good to your body, and drink good wine. Cheers from your DBP Grigio Girls!
