The day of love is upon us and we thought we’d honor it with a tribute to the sensual substances named after the goddess of love herself, Aphrodite. Wine and chocolate seem like a titillating duo to woo your sweetheart any day, but there may be more creative ways to boost your libido (avocado, anyone?). We discuss several aphrodisiacs, their stimulating history, and the science behind their arousing properties. Sipping on the tempting red blend, Sexual Chocolate, we get in the mood for this most romantic day! #eatsomethingsexy
From false walls and fake cobwebs to buried bottles, the vignerons of France came up with some pretty inventive ways to keep the Germans’ hands off their precious treasure: wine! Throughout World War II, the Germans invaded and pillaged the vineyards of their neighboring country, taking any and all wine they could get their hands on, especially the good shit! All of this has been captured in a fantasic book, called Wine & War, which Sarah read to bring us the deets. Whether you’re a history buff, a wine nerd, or just like to read, Wine & War is a fascinating story to immerse yourself!
Much like the wine we’re pairing this topic with, Experience can lead you to new, uncharted territories. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, more oftentimes scary. Maybe you had a falling out with a friend, maybe you had to move somewhere you’ve never been (ahem, “The Place That Shall Not Be Named”), maybe you live for the unfamiliar! Whichever bucket you find yourself, have you ever considered what you gained from these experiences? In this episode, we take a trip back to reflect more deeply on some of those pivotal moments in your DBP hosts’ lives: becoming less Type A, moving to Milwaukee, a trip to Napa that changed everything. So let the stars align for you, let fear carry you forward rather than hold you back, and tune in. And remember, wine is not just a beverage, it’s an experience!
Nobody likes to fail, but the US may be dubbed as a failure of one of the biggest public health achievements in our history. How, you ask? Not even halfway through the year, this country is already seeing the greatest number of measles cases in over 25 years – with more than 700 confirmed cases across 22 states as of the date of recording! As anti-vaxxers become more prevalent, with pockets of non-immunized communities popping up around the country, our most vulnerable are at risk. Even a small dip in immunity of the nation’s population can make this very contagious disease a threat. A topic that demands attention, yours truly delve into the details behind the spread of this potentially fatal virus and talk about the propaganda put out there…it’s absolutely terrifying!! As we discuss the evolution of this potential epidemic, we thought what better to sip on than Evolution White Wine from Oregon…grab a glass and listen in!

Time to make a deal! With yourself, of course! It’s a New Year, which means new beginnings and resolutions. This episode we discuss the tradition of New Year’s resolutions, how to set meaningful goals for yourself, and tactics to making them stick! What better way to start a New Year than by drinking the California red, DealMaker, mostly composed of Old Vine Zinfandel, a DBP favorite! Even the winemaker, Jeff Cohn, has some words of wisdom for 2019…”Relax: It’s 2019!”
Happy Beaujolais Nouveau Day DBPeeps!! In honor of the official release day for Beaujolais Nouveau, we wanted to revisit this holiday and what it’s all about. What is this Beaujolais we speak of and why is it so special that this youngin’ of a wine deserves its own festival? Could be because it’s a great transition to red for our white wine drinking friends! Listen in to learn how it came to be that the first harvest of the Beaujolais crop across France gained its own holiday. We couldn’t get our hands on Beaujolais Nouveau before its release, so you’ll just have to “suffer” through our TWO Beaujolais/gamay noir wines we’re drinking this episode. It’s go time….it’s Beaujolais Nouveau time! This could be the perfect wine for Thanksgiving. Now pass the wine, bitches!

The only way a great wine can get better is with an inspiring story to back it. With a philosophy of winemaking that transcends decades of war, a wine legend is born. In this episode, we explore the story of the Lebanese winery, Château Musar, and the man behind it all – Serge Hochar. Serge continued to pursue quality, organic winemaking throughout a 20 year civil war and only lost 2 vintages. With a delicious wine and a remarkable history – Serge and his legacy leave us awe-struck! Find a bottle of Musar Jeune (or, if you’re really ambitious, the elevated Château Musar) red blend and drink though this life-altering story with us! All Hail the Almighty Château Musar!
