We are celebrating this most momentous occasion with a memorable wine from our DBP trip to Napa Valley, while reflecting on our growth since our beginnings. How have our wine tastes evolved, and what have been our most favorite episodes, and most surprising wines we’ve tasted? Brrr…it’s cold outside! While the freeze may be no fun for most, it is essential to make Icewine, or Eiswein as the Germans say! We decided to show appreciation for the winter season with a tasting of not one but THREE types of Icewine! This sweet wine is unique from other dessert wines because of the strict laws and and harsh conditions required to make it. Canada’s not only known for its maple syrup, but for being the largest producer of Icewine, so it’s perfect that we opted to drink G.Marquis Icewine from Ontario while discussing this wine delicacy.
When you start messing with the fate of wine, your DBP hosts’ most-beloved beverage, you’ve caught our attention. Climate change is no joke and it’s definitely causing a stir for wine-growing regions, especially those niche regions. Will Canada be able to continue making their signature icewine? Will we have to say goodbye to our favorite familiar varietals and welcome lesser-known ones? Will new wine regions pop up that we could have never imagined (Russian wine, anyone)? We don’t know for sure, but we had fun hypothesizing what opportunities and potential changes may be in store. We are definitely not scientists, but we can for damn sure speculate on wine. And we got our hands on a rare treat – a red wine from the only desert in the middle of a country that is 50% frozen: Canada!
